Now

This is a now page. It’s a list of what I’m up to. Less ephemeral and more big picture than a single post or toot. As the nownownow.com/about page describes, “Think of what you’d tell a friend you hadn’t seen in a year.”

Here’s what I’ve been up to lately:

  • – Experimenting with a very unusual music production software called “Renoise.” It’s a little bit like writing music in a spreadsheet, in a good way. Writing this way steers me to music I wouldn’t have come up with using other software
  • – After realizing I had 39 finished and unreleased tracks on my hard drive, I’ve started to “release” them on this website. I’ve been making the album art too which I find super fun
  • – Working on my “personal cloud”, a collecting of software running on my home server that I use everyday. For instance, I use Pihole to block adds on our home network, I use Navidrome to listen to my music library, and I use Prometheus and Grafana to collect data and show it in cool charts and graphs
  • – Updating this site, adding more music, and trying to make it a little more accessible (not as many super loud colors and distracting backgrounds, plus image descriptions – only partially done with that part)

Previously:

Spring-Summer 2025:

  • – Started work on a Taylor Swift reggae cover album. I often get bored and move onto a different project, but I also return to the project to continue from time to time
  • – I got a short-scale electric bass (smaller, which fits me nicely because I’m a small person) and have been practicing a ton. I’ve dabbled on bass for years but this is the first time I’ve really really dug into it. Practicing multiple hours a day. I love learning musical instruments, it’s so satisfying to see incremental progress every day
  • Fall 2024:
  • – Trying to make one short track per day for Septembeat
  • – Making lots of art, mostly of real and imaginary plants – Alien Plants and Creatures
  • – Tinkering with this website, adding a Sound Blog and Photo Blog
  • – Playing with my microscope and looking at stuff. It’s creeping me out a little.
  • Even older:
  • – Playing “Starbound” – although it got pretty tedious
  • – Working on a jazz big band album but it’s 100% synthesizers
  • – Practicing my EWI – Electronic Wind Instrument, which I affectionately call my TurboSax
