a drum loop but it’s people speaking
I loaded Samplebrain with samples of people speaking, then had it try to recreate a drum loop. All the sounds you hear are snippets of people speaking – there are no “drum” sounds

west african-inspired tidalcycles groove
Tidalcycles sequencing VCV Rack. I was obsessed with West African music when I made this. Actually I’m still obsessed with West African music.

pandiatonic LFO chords
I made a bank of VCO’s, offset them a bit, then sent each one into a pitch quantizer. This meant that as the CV input changed, the pitches would all move together, but stay in the same key, sort of like mashing down the white keys on a piano – that’s the pandiatonic part. Then…

the amen break but ambient
I think I used Paulstretch and/or a very long plate reverb for this

Ngl I don’t remember exactly how I made this… I think I used the VCV Rack Router module to cycle through various modulation sources, then sent them to one (or more?) oscillators

I wrote a script to generate psuedo-random thumbnail images
I’ve been building my sound blog and want each entry to have its own image. Since the entries are audio, for most people there’s no image to look at. I wrote a script to generate small images I can use.

synth thumb piano
very short snippet of a distorted mbira/thumb-piano-ish synth patch, inspired by the group Konono No. 9. It’s also in just tuning or just intonation, which is a different tuning system than the usual one (called equal temperament)

the composer is telling the computer
This is what it sounds like if you have a bunch of organ samples try to recreate the sound of a person speaking. More concatenative synthesis… it’s cool
-
samplebrain pops
I don’t know why I love this so much but I do. It’s probably the popping sounds
-
some samplebrain nonsense
This is basically a bunch of random sounds trying to copy a different bunch of random sounds. Concatenative synthesis. Check out Samplebrain… it’s wild
